Chapter Five:

Here's chapter five. Check out the above link for a list of the other chapters. Leave me a comment, I'd love to hear what you think.

We return to the Summer-Moon household just a few days after the newest addition, Edward Summer-Moon, came home with Raven from the hospital.

Maggie loved her newest little grandson and she welcomed him to the house.

The birth of her son did little to ease the pain in Raven's heart. She missed Finn every day and she found life without him as difficult as she had the day she lost him.

Maggie worried about Raven. But there was little she could do. Except for raise the boys. Maggie was definintely surrogate mother for Will and Eddie.

Soon enough it was little William's birthday. Raven was wallowing in self pity in the courtyard, so Maggie and her eldest grandson celebrated alone.

William had his grandmother's hair, but he looked so much like his mother. The black mark on his neck and his glowing eyes were much more pronounced, however and Maggie's heart broke anew. The curse she hated was being passed on again and again.

Raven knew she couldn't just spend her time missing the love of her life, so she kept her hands busy with her sculptures. The money that was being brought in was enough to begin a small family fortune.

The months were flying by and soon it was little Eddie's birthday.

Maggie noticed straight away the tiny little mark on Eddie's neck. She made the same vow she made to William when he was just as young; she would always be there for her little grandson to be the support she had never got growing up as a vampire.

Eddie was a more normal looking toddler than his blue skinned brother. The weeks flew by and Maggie treasured every minute with both her little grandsons.

William and Maggie had long talks in those next few months. Maggie keep no secrets about what it was like being a vampire. And although it was a long time ago, Maggie could clearly remember what her own troubled childhood had been like. Luckily for Will, he had the support of his devoted grandmother to answer his many questions.

Don't be mistaken that Raven was not a good mother. She did interact with her sons, she took an interest in them and she loved them dearly. But she was fragile, and she wasn't able to be everything they needed, so she was so grateful that Maggie was able to be there.

Maggie was still quite active in her coven and she would sometimes take little Eddie along with her. Exposing her little grandson to that world early on, meant that he would hopefully be less inclined to rebel and cause havoc as Maggie had done.

William was settling in to school. He was like his father, a little bit of a loner. And his odd looks did little to make the other kids include him, but he was generally left alone by the bullies. Maybe the reputation his icy grandmother had kept him safe.

Raven was still struggling. Especially when she looked into little Eddie's glowing eyes. He did look so much like his father that Raven found it a little hard to keep the tears from falling when he looked at her a certain way.

For Maggie, Eddie's little eyes brought back memories of raising her son. Thinking about those old days, in that little cottage on the edge of Riverview with her quiet little cousin and her tiny twins, made the ice queen's heart thaw just a little and brought a small smile to her normally grave face.

Will was more like his grandmother than his little brother was. He was quieter and a little less likely to just burst out laughing. He looked at his curse as more of a way of life, than something to be feared.

Soon it was Eddie's birthday.

Eddie looked so much like his father. But there were certain features, like his nose, that were from his other worldly mother.

Maggie decided that enough was enough. Raven and her would be mother in law had a bit of an argument that night. Raven seemed to forget sometimes that Maggie lost her son the day that Raven lost her fiance. It had been years since they lost Finn and Maggie just wished Raven would snap out of it and be the mother the boys needed.

The argument blew over quickly and life returned to how it was. With the extra money that Raven was bringing in with her sculptures Maggie was able to get a computer and start writing again. It had been a good 30 or so years since she had written anything, but before long the best selling lists were on fire with Maggie's creations.

Maggie's words had stung Raven and she did try her best to be there for her boys a little more. Will noticed the change in his quiet mother, and he did appreciate how hard she was trying after all these years to get on with life without Finn.

William took his brother under his wing at school, but Eddie didn't need it. Eddie was more outgoing than his sombre brother and he fitted in with the kids at school, despite the knowledge that he was far from ordinary.

Now that both boys were at school full time, Maggie spent her days in her lair resting. She was out during the night, enforcing her rule as Queen of the Undead and despite appearances she was getting on in years and enjoyed her time to rest.

William's birthday was upon the house quickly enough.

He looked more like his mother's people than ever before. But he embraced the vampire he was to become, and dressed to match his grandmother's people.

Although the brothers were not alike in apperances or in personality, they did get along. Eddie had never met his father so Will took on that role for his little brother.

William counted his lucky stars every day for his grandmother and her wisdom. He knew how difficult his life would be, but was glad she was there to help him come to terms with his curse.

While he could still spend time outside Will enjoyed pumping iron in the courtyard. He worked hard to create an intimidating image.

This is where chapter five comes to an end. A few quiet years for the grieving family. Will is right at the beginning of his long life, Eddie is learning and growing every day, Raven is slowly coming to terms with her loss and Maggie is preparing her grandsons for the dark lives they will lead. Chapter six coming soon!
